These are my personal "opinions" based on small samples of engine v engine games of my pc using one machine (amd 3000 xp+), 5'+3", ponder off, same book (my home-made book based on elo 2400+ games 1999-2005), 128M hash, egtb for fruit 2.2.1. Rybka preview 2 is slightly stronger than Fruit 2.2.1 with 3-4-5 egtb. Now change Fruit's parameters to History Threshold =50 (thanks to Uri) and King Safety =104, then Fruit is slight;y stronger than Rybka. Now change Rybka's parameter to Time Management=Slow and Rybka is slightly stronger than the modified Fruit 2.2.1. I wonder if anyone else noticed the same, or perhaps it was just a small sample anomaly.
