The question is what is the target?

If the target is to maximize the chances to win the first place then it may be
better to gamble with changes that were not tested enough if you believe that
they help based on the tests that you already did(at least you can do it against
the stronger opponents).

Of course testing is needed but using changes does not prevent testing them
later and I doubt if there is bug difference between third place and 4th place
from the point of view of selling fruit later.
