Hiarcs 10 played on Centrino 1.6GHz notebook, 3-4 some 5 piece tablebases, 512MB
Hash
Yace 0.99.87 played on PIV 3.2HT GHz, 3,4,5 tablebases + bitbases, 512MB Hash
The hardware is about equal (<20% speed difference in favour of the Centrino).
Time control was game in 25 minutes with 10 seconds increment.
Initially I wanted to play until each engine has won a game with either colour
but my patience wasn't sufficient and I've just decided to stop the match after
game 38.
Hiarcs won with 29 wins, 7 draws and 2 losses.
Hiarcs was simply outstanding, outplaying Yace in every stage of the game again
and again, including all kinds of endgames. The marketing information seems to
be correct too, its opening book has improved a lot. While this used to be a
major weakness of the previous version, it was very decent in this match.
It also outsearched Yace like mad, usually spotting critical tactics about two
moves earlier.
Very impressive and enjoyable to watch - time for tougher competition I guess.
Following the only game where Hiarcs was outplayed ( the other loss was simply
suicide (horizon effect) in a very forced variation leading to a rook endgame
where both engines were very surprised by the outcome) - this one was maybe
caused by two big bonus for bishops of opposite coulours.
Peter
PS: I could post PGN of all the games if anyone is interested.
