Stanback used them in his program which was GNU Chess v2, v3, v4. I don't recall what specific version he introduced it in as the FSF does not keep old versions, as a rule. Perhaps it was even in SCP which was pre-v2 as I recollect. Kong-Sian's v5 used bitboards as it made sense to convert to that paradigm for pedantic reasons. The goal was to provide a full source to something readable. Stuart
