Two possibilities. First they are still in the opening book even though your
engine was out of book. Second, they are making a "ponder" move. By that I mean
that they were pondering when your engine was thinking. They had a ready move
based upon what their engine expected your engine to do.

I have a question about the playchess site too. Why does my system do a
temporary "hang" very often when I logoff from playchess after playing some
engine v engine matches?
