Some comparisons using the Arasan5 and thhe WM-Test Express test suites. The
tested personalities: default, hyper-modern ON and that of Thorsten Czub (hyper,
aggressive, threat=5, combinationns ON, futility OFF).
The machine was P4 3GHz, hash was set to 73 MB (I don't know why, this was set
by default).
For Arasan5, 10 sec/position, for WM, 5 minutes prer position was used.
Here are the results:
Arasan5 (141 pos.) WM-Test-Express (30 pos.)
default 106 18
hyper 108 not tested
TC 102 14
Notes:
(1) Arasan5 is a tactical test suite. WM-Test express is a balanced test suite
consisting of king attack, positional play and endgame positions.
(2) The difference in WM-Test corresponds approximateli 37 Elo rating points
(using the EloStatTS program)
(3) Based on various test suites, hyper-modern alone seems to be somewhat
stronger tactically than the default setting.
