Look, here are my two cents, especially on this blablabla about the charter. It
isn't that I do not respect the charter, of course I do. However to confuse a
club's general rules for a code of laws is really silly.
I was one of three to be the very first group of moderators for CTF. You can
imagine. There was no charter, and we didn't have any idea as to what to do.
Colin Frayn drew up a draft of the charter and we had quite a debate via e-mail
on how to apply it. We came to an agreement, and were promptly in argument again
over a post and thread that came up very shortly after.
Where was this invisible line of what is acceptable or not? Eventually, we
agreed that trying to add endless articles and exceptions to the charter was an
exercise in futility. The number one rule became: use your judgment and good
sense, and not article (1), article (2), or other. Here there are clearer
guidelines, but even so, some are clearly more important than others.
The number one reason CCC was created wasn't (and I've been here since its
creation) because of off-topic or friendly banter, but because of harassment and
persecution.
As to the increasing jocularity among members, I think it is completely natural
and healthy to see members who mostly or exclusively socialize with each other
via this forum, and I would whole-heartedly encourage it since this is quite
rare among forums, but at the same time 10+ post joking threads between only two
really shouldn't become a habit. Despite it all, the club does have a subject
theme.
