Poor Kramnik did not look so good in the pictures at Chessbase. His illness
explains much of his bad form recently. Let's hope he does not get more serious
complications. A pity he won't be there in Wijk aan Zee.

http://www.coruschess.com/ does not have any news.

I would propose Magnus Carlsen as a good replacement. He is already there as a
participant for the B tournament! If Judith could come it would be great but I
suppose she has a break from tournaments? She did not play in the Essent
Tournament this year. Another possibility would be to look for another of the
runners up from the B tournament. Dutch talent Jan Smeets came second but it was
a tie with Mamedyarov. They came in front of Magnus so it would be fairer to
give them a chance. Mamedyarov is not on the participants list of the B group
this year though. On such short notice, the tournament committee may also decide
to leave the place open, but that will make the standings less clear with all
the free rounds.

Jan Smeets scored 8.5 points with just a single loss, winner Karjakin earned a
place in the super GM group with 9.5 points last year.
