I have a single solution for Botvinnik's delusion. He was not really a scientist. He was influenced by politics and of course his huge chess involvement prevented deeper insight. Otherwise it's completely spooky how he could lose himself in such dreams. When I was young I realy believed in Botvinnik the engineer for electrics. Then during my own studies I saw that the best in either maths or physics or also then psychology (I knew someone who had participated in the Students Olympiads and who had written a chess paper for his diploma but then when I met him once again he was into a different job and said he were out of chess for reasons of time - that was a shock for me) simply couldnt succeed in both spheres. You cant do anything relevant in science if you are a professional chessplayer or a player from the former SU. Even a genius couldnt. It's just too time-consuming. - Thanks for bringing me to the very center of what I wanted to say. -Rolf
