Just throwing in my only remaining Ducat.
Book learning is important in a match, and to a lesser extent in a tournament.
Position learning is more usefull in retro-analysis, or even deep-position
analysis.
It can't be coincidence that HIARCS, Shredder and Yace are well known and
respected for their retro-analysis.
Pos. learning in a game doesn't seem_that_important to me though.
