Today when I booted up my computer and tried the position again it played f8=B ? This with the new CD ROM and SP1 !? So there is some variation in what Fritz5.32 plays each time it is started even though it is "Playing" from the CD ROM in this case. Another interesting developement is if you play out the moves by playing f8=R , Fritz then searches normally and selects RxR. But the surprise comes next if you let Fritz make the next move it calls for the CD ROM again and shows (#14) Rxf8 ! In other words it finds mate in 14 from the CD ROM ! I have tried many combinations trying to discover why Fritz5.32 sometimes plays f8=B and sometimes f8=R. Fritz5.32 in both cases plays the first move in the move list. I don't know why sometimes it's (0)f8=B and sometimes it's (0)f8=R. But it's for sure the (0) score is wrong for the f8=R. I have not been able to make the Fritz 5.32 make the f8=R move with the old Fritz 5.16 CD ROM. This only happens with the new CD ROM (so far). In any case I give up. It's evidently too big a problem for Chessbase to solve too. Jim Walker
