Subject: Question for Dr. Hyatt (or any Sun Server fans..)

Author: enrico carrisco

How do these processors stack up for computer chess? I don't think I've seen
any real information since the days of SPEC actually taken for a reasonable
benchmark for computer chess (before it was found how cache dependendant it
was.)

Nearest I can tell (using that SPEC benchmark) the UltraSPARC IV+ processors are
about 18-20% slower than an Opteron, MHz for MHz.

Anyone who has a more precise analysis is welcomed...

Regards,

-elc.
