When you change a default setting to suit an engine against another and beat it, while at the other engine you don't, it is not fair.....Of course it is not your problem to find setting for the other program too, in order to raise it's strength too, but the point is that you have to prove that these settings work in general and not against Rybka only..... > > >>Correct....! I didn't claim that it isn't increasing strength at general. I just find it odd that the default setting is not superior and that your settings are, because of the simple reason that you are a beta tester of Hiarcs and eitheir the author thought that you are wrong or you didn't inform him for having a better setting. If it is true that your settings are better in general, then i see a bad cooperation between you and Mark OR a bad Mark's decision not to make your setting the default ones...... > > >>Perhaps Shredder 7.0 has a set of parameters that can > > >perhaps. >i am not talking about what COULD happen. i am talking about what my computers >played out. > > >>beat Hiarcs10, another set that can beat Fritz9, etc, but overall it is much >>weaker than the todays top engines..... > >no. >the change in the style menue work against other programs too. Kurt Utzinger has already said that this is not true with Chessmaster and logic says that with Hiarcs should be also the same. That is if a set of parameters play better than default ones against an engine, we don't imply for sure that it will play stronger than default against another engine opponent. If you propose that just these parameters work this way and are stronger in general then yes this is possible, but also see my above answer.... >and even worse: default hiarcs is beating f9 and fruit and s9. only rybka not. You speak in general. So you are wrong! Because i don't see in every list that H10 is above F9 and Fr221 and S9......
