When a pawn ending is reduced to king moves only, that's when bigger hash
tables are an advantage, as far as I know.
Please consider the following position:
8/k7/3p4/p2P1p2/P2P1P2/8/8/K7 white is upper case, I believe.1 meg hash
1 meg hash 16 meg hash
time depth time depth
01:47 22/23 04:05 22/23
02:03 23/24 04:21 23/24
02:31 24/25 04:50 24/25
03:14 25/26 05:33 25/26
05:38 26/27 07:56 26/27
07:46 27/28 10:04 27/28
07:54 28/29 10:11 28/29
10:53 29/30 13:10 29/30
These were the results on a CM6K, P150 machine 48meg ram. They suggest the
amaller hash is faster, at least in pure pawn endings.
Can someone explain the reason for this? Otherwise I might as well leave my
ttable at the default setting
I let white move first, then left the machine's 'permanent brain' to consider
black's move and got the above results.
le setting at the default.
