I used weighted space control as the primary value. However, I added mobility and gained some performance some years ago. I added just one point for each square of mobility per piece. However, this was not the best. Better was to have a nonlinear value for each piece give its mobility. This is easily achieved with arrays. Also, there are multiple papers in the ICGA (then ICCA) journals on this subject.
