SQL stands for "Structured Query Language" and it is one very popular way to
manipulate data. Basically, all operations are mathematical set operations and
all result sets are tables. By using a standard tool like SQL, I can perform a
huge variety of queries with a large number of standard tools. Also, since SQL
is standardized (e.g. ANSI SQL92) it can be used by a huge number of target
platforms. There are a lot of experienced SQL programmers round about.
