Hmmm, I don't really agree - at least when testing a typical playing engine.
Engines do not care for the fastest past to win, typically (unless they see a
mate). Hash tables, and probably more typically used techniques, can yield in
artefacts: engines may see a longer win faster than the shorter win. As long, as
they will show you the win, this should not matter (for a test position).

BTW. In this position: Isn't 1. Bb5 a simple transposition to the main line
given by you? How could an engine show a positive score in this position,
without "understanding"?
