I think that really the most likely scenario for the strongest chess engine in
the future will be discerned by an examination of history.

It will be an engine we have never heard of.

Of course, the current ones may continue to advance and stay on top.  But
history seems to show that new engines pop up with some sort of new paradigms
and advance the field.  While they do tend to make good improvements, it's often
a newcomer that bolts to the front of the pack.

I also expect that all current engines are going to advance a lot, once they
understand clearly what Fabien has done.

Do not imagine that Fabien has run out of gas.  From the first iteration that he
sent to me on March 3, 2004 he has picked up a huge Elo increase in less than 2
years.  I guess that he can do it again.  With a programming style like that,
you can do anything.
