Intel has a (moderately expensive) package designed to help C developers optimize their applications for speed. Included in this is a 'plug-in', which apparently works with MS Visual C++ to provide faster code using existing optimization options, and as well adds a few options (for example, producing PII-specific code, which would obviously not work on all x86 chips, but which is faster on the PII). The (certainly most favorable) examples on Intel's web page demonstrate a reasonable improvement over MS's already very-good results, but I don't know if any of these additional optimizations would result in a measurable improvement in Crafty performance - has anyone tried it? (The package is something like $400, so I'm not going to spring for it anytime soon.) Mike
