Uri, the games played over there at www.gameknot.com are not correspondence
chess to me. They are rather 'offline chess' like at www.igame.ru or other
offline chess sites. When I said ' correspondence chess', I actually meant ICCF
snail mail or email chess. In ICCF or RCCA (Russian Correspondence Chess
Association) players who don't use computer help or chess programme assistance
are really few, if any. Personally, I use computer assistance only for ICCF or
RCCA games and play on my own at www.gameknot.com. I find the play level at
gameknot rather poor, may be because of trying to avoid cheating.
As to engines I use for analysis in CC games at ICCF, I personally find Rybka
and Shredder more convenient because I undertand their moves and plans better
than those of the CB-based products.
BTW, I used to be a sturdy fan of Hiarcs and I was looking forward to the new
H10 version very much. Now I feel very dissappointed. I think H10 is even worse
than H9 for analysis. It's lost a lot of its positional understanding, to my
mind. Perhaps, Mark Uniacke made up his mind to make it stronger at tactical or
attacking chess but its positional euristics has somewhat degraded, as it seems.
It's my personal view, though.
Best wishes,
Alexander
P.S.: I've shown my friend, OTB NM, how Rybka plays and he was amazed at how
strong human chess can programmes play nowadays.
