Subject: Winboard with Polyglot13/latest Cygwin1 incompatible with Win98/Win98SE?

Works fine with WinXP,
but with Win98 or Win98SE I immediately get, after the launch of Winboard, two
error windows:
Fatal error: Error writing to first chess program: the communication channel has
been closed
Fatal error: Error: first chess program (Polyglot rybka.ini) exited unexpectedly

Is this a well known incompatibility?

My Winboard is version 4.2.6
Cygwin1.dll is the latest one (June 3, 2005), compatble with Polyglot 1.3
Polyglot 1.3 is necessary if you want to use books
