I loaded Junior 9 to play me in chessbase. I had him optimized in book options and gave him Junior 9's book to use. I kept opening PK4 and all he would play was Petroff's defense. No sicilian, RuyLopez, French or anything else. Just Petroffs. I assumed something was wrong. But then at someones suggestion i set up Junior to play black ag. Rybka in some 2 minute games. Each time Rybka opened PK4 Junior would only play Petroffs defense. He won the first 2 of those. But the 3rd time Rybka opened Pk4 Junior lost. Then i went back to the big board to play white ag. him myself. I opened PK4 as before, but now he answered with the sicilian, Ruy Lopez, French- anything but Petroffs. I am assuming he was using book learning and was going to stick with Petroffs till he lost with it. I am thinking that this was not a malfunction of any sort, but the way he is supposed to operate, and it was book learning that kept him playing Petroffs as long as he was winning with it, and it was also book learning that made him steer away from it after he lost with it. Am i right in my thinking and he was operating as he should? Thanks, George
