Guess you are right ;-)
If book learning is acticated, losing moves get additional numbers wriiten in a
special column, (dont know the name now).
something like -1.
For a win it would be +1.
This is not very surprising, but the point I want to make is,
that you can see these numbers, when loading the book and looking at it.
If you find them there was some book learning, if not, then not.
(If you load book from CD/DVD, no writing possible -> no learning).

Well, you said it all yourself, but I think you are right.
