I have 4GB for main Memory, I am running Windows X64 the only 64-bit chess program i have to my knowledge is Crafty. Chessbase and my Copy of Deep Shredder 9 are 32 bit. Right Now I have a Single Dual Core 270 Opteron (2Ghz each core) i have an empty cpu slot and 4 more memory slots. I use 2Gb for Hash Tables and if i try to do anything else with my computer i get Virtual Memory problems. It's not that i really need to check my email or surf the Web when i am analyzing chess positions i am just uncertain why 2 Extra GB isn't enough for the entire system. The plan was to populate all Memory slots get another 4GB you can get 8 x 2GB chips but that's really expensive. I would hope that NUMA and 4 extra GB would make a huge difference but i am just asking opinions here. 1 would 16GB really be overkill Vs 8GB compared to what i have now and 2 do you see any difference with NUMA etc. Thankyou
