Hi everyone! I just finished a small tournament with 4 of the newest engines. I was testing on this Hardware: Asus A8V Motherboard, Socket 939, FSB 1.000 MHz AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 2.4 GHz, 1 MB Level 2 Cache, 90 nm San Diego Core 2 x 512 MB Corsair PC 3200XLPT RAM (CAS Latency 2-2-2-5) And here are the specific testconditions: Shredder 9 GUI Thinkingtime for each engine: 4 + 2 (Blitz) Hash Tables for each engine: 64 MB PC 3200 Ram (CAS Latency 2-2-2-5) 8 MB Cache for TB's TB's: Nalimov - 3 und 4-pieces Book: Perfect v.8.1 for all engines Pondern OFF Default-settings for all engines Every engine played 10 times against each opponent, 30 games all together. Result: 1. Hiarcs 10 23½ points 2. Glaurung 1.0.1 13 points 3. SmarThink 1.00 12½ 4. Naum 1.9 11 A very convincingly and expected victory for Hiarcs 10. The battle between the last 3 engines were very hard and close. Perhaps a bit disappointing that SmarThink 1.00 as a commercial engine wasn't able to finish second but based on my own tests I can say that SmarThink 1.00 is doing considerably better on longer timecontrols. Having said that there is no doubt that Glaurung and Naum are great engines and among the best Free-ware engines. Best regards Per
