Robert, I think we all agree that Rybka is simply outstanding. As a layman and non programmer I have gleefully become a victim of Rybka many times, almost to the point of disbelief on more than one occasion (Shredder 7.04, I know it's old). After obtaining clear advantages in openings (my own book) with both black and white, the area of the "end of the middle game to the end game" has consistently been my downfall against Rybka and probably the same for other opponents. Obviously I don't know what the author has done with knowledge, or lack of, for his program but whatever he has done is working well. I won't begin to ask you because I have a fair idea it's much too complicated to state in simple terms but your example of adding to Crafty's abilities and the need for continual adjustments is very clear and interesting.
