There is no "perfect" test setup. When I want to test engine changes (which is what you are doing), I use one of the following two setups: 1) Pre-determined positions. I have my own testsuite of 220 positions, also some public ones like Silver, Noomen, etc are good. 2) Junior 9 book for both engine, with maximum randomization and no learning. (Ie. in Fritz GUI, top slider all the way to the right, bottom two sliders all the way to the left, "tournament book" unclicked). Both engines get white and black from each position.
