I got the info i gave you in the previous email from one of the resident
chessbase tech. experts in Germany. I told him the math that Steve Lopez quoted
in a chesbase article for deciding hashes didnt add up. He gave me the
following, which ws all i was really interested in. He said for a 5 min. game-
32mb hash. For a 30 or 40 min. game- 128mb hash. For longer time controls like
1hour or more - 256mb hash if you have the avail. hash. If you are running
engine-engine, never use more than half your avail. total hash for the total for
both engines. Of course 40 moves in 40 min. repeating would be- 128 mb also. For
really long time controls, use as much as you can get away with, without seeing
a fall off in nodes per second or hard drive ratcheting. Of course the above
hash settings he gave me may have been based on my giving him my processor
speed, which is 2.8ghz. You might want to contact him and discuss this with him.
His name is Hans and his email address is as follows: hans@schach.de He is a
nice man and should be able to help you, tho sometimes it will take him a few
days to get back to you. My personal guess based on what he gave me was that for
anything shorter than 5 min. i would set the hash on either 16 or 32 mb. I dont
think it will make a hell of a lot of diff. one way or the other. You have to
realize that when people bring up correct hash settings, you can almost never
get 2 to agree on much of anything. If it were me, i would stick with Hans
advice. Hope this is if some help. George
