Most programs do it that way! The King in its GUI(Chessmaster) doesn't do it like this and has to reach the position in order to use the information..... >What is the evaluation? It has perfect information. Win, draw or loss.....If it calculates that the principal variation is the one that leads to a 6 piece position and tablebases say "win" then its a win and reports the win(or in Nalimov's TB's the distance to mate also!).....
