Subject: New Version of EXchess

Hi Everyone,

After several years of no new releases, I finally have a new version of EXchess
to report...

http://personal.denison.edu/~homand/EXchess.htm

My time is now very (very) limited for chess, so I spend about 2 hours a month
on this project (hence the slow progress), but it has reached a stage now where
some might find it interesting. Oh, I should also say up front that given my
hectic schedule, I may be slow in responding to queries regarding EXchess.

Don't expect big changes in playing strength from version 4.03... in fact, it
will probably be weaker as I have temporarily disabled egtb access until I can
sort something out there. Most of my work has been in giving EXchess a
graphical interface. Most of you probably won't care about that as
winboard/arena/etc.. are definitely superior, but the GUI is fun to work on and
many of my friends/family have been asking for an easier way to play with
EXchess for years. One interesting point is that the GUI works on Mac, Linux,
and Windows (althougth I've only tested one version of each operating system).

The winboard/xboard version is now called "EXchess_console" -- please see
'readme.txt' if you want to run matches with it... you will probably want to
turn on book learning (which is off by default).

On the programming side, I've re-written large bunches of the code to be more
object oriented than 4.03, but this also has resulted in very little change in
play.
