Subject: My latest experiences with ChessBase GUI's

Once again I would like to thank everyone here who tried to help me out of my
misery that was caused by UCI engines who suddenly refused to play under the
HIARCS 10 GUI.

Before HIARCS 10 I had Fritz 7 Special Edition 2003 installed on my PC. When my
problem with HIARCS 10 began I uninstalled it in case the two software
interfered with each other. It did not help.
Then I uninstalled HIARCS and reinstalled it, but not to the directory in which
it used to be but - inadvertently - to another one. As you know by now, this did
not help either.

However, I could not accept that I have to take out CB engines from my
tournament (for those of you who are interested, it has an URL:
http://szots.freeweb.hu). Now I thought it may be possible to play the CB engine
- UCI engine games if I reinstall Fritz 7. And so I did.

It came as a little surprise that however well I had weeded out Fritz 7 from my
PC (at least so I thought), the installer seemed to remember the place and
installed the software there without asking me for a directory. It did not ask
for the serial number either!

The end of the story: under this Fritz 7 GUI my eng-eng matches go smoothly
again!

It seems the HIARCS 10 GUI has a UCI-engine related bug, which the Fritz 7 GUI
does not have.

Thank you if you read this far. :-)

Gábor
