Hello Horst,

some general words about this book stuff:

There are 2 different ways how an engine can get moves from an opening book:

a) The engine does all the book handling by itself.
b) The engine does not know about books at all. A different program, for example
the chess base grafical user interface, does all this book handling for the
engine and gives a position to the engine when the book is empty, only now the
engine starts its own work.

Naum can use its own book and do all the stuff by itself,
Fritz for example does not know about books and gets the moves from the
interface.

When you have got this, the rest is not so complicated any more:
When you have loaded Naum as an uci engine in CB Gui, there are two concurring
methods to give a book to the engine:
1) activate "own book" in uci options
2) activate a ctg book for Naum and do the settings as if it were a CB program.

I recommend to activate only one of these two possibilities at the same time.
For example activate own book in uci options and then, when you start a match or
a tournament: dont activate the use of a book in the tournament dialog.

Try this in a simple 2 game match and give 1 min per side.
I am sure you find out if the engine starts thinking at move 1 (-> would mean n
o book is active) or if the book you have wanted to give to it is active,
thinkin process starts later.)

Of course things can be more complicated in practise, but I hope the basic
principle is clear. If not, feel free to ask again, once you have understood
this difference, things get easier :-)

(usually the own books in .bin format or similar have to be in the same location
as the engine .exe itself, so extract the book there if possible, or copy it
there after you have unzipped, unrared etc. it elsewhere. sometimes it is
possible to give the location of the own book in the uci options, always have a
close look there.)
