Thanks for the results. I did some testing using Focus = 5, and after a
promising start (best score against Fritz 9 to date) in the first 100 games, it
completely collapsed against Hiarcs 10 (hypermodern) and lost. Note that every
test I had done so far had it beat Hiarcs by a 60% margin at the very worst.
My tests with UltraSolid concur with yours BTW. No difference essentially. Mine
showed a 0.5 point lead after 200 games (and 4 opponents). Using Beta 13 of
course.
Default:
1 Rybka 1.01 Beta 13 32-bit 2900 +19/-15/=16 54.00% 27.0/50
2 Fritz 9 2820 +15/-19/=16 46.00% 23.0/50
1 Rybka 1.01 Beta 13 32-bit 2900 +25/-10/=15 65.00% 32.5/50
2 Fruit 2.2 2850 +10/-25/=15 35.00% 17.5/50
1 Rybka 1.01 Beta 12 32-bit 2900 +22/-11/=17 61.00% 30.5/50
2 Hiarcs 10 2850 +11/-22/=17 39.00% 19.5/50
Total: 90 / 150
Default with Focus = 5:
1 Rybka 1.01 Beta 13 32-bit 2900 +28/-10/=12 68.00% 34.0/50
2 Fritz 9 2820 +10/-28/=12 32.00% 16.0/50
1 Rybka 1.01 Beta 13 32-bit 2900 +26/-15/=9 61.00% 30.5/50
2 Fruit 2.2 2850 +15/-26/=9 39.00% 19.5/50
1 Hiarcs 10 2850 +18/-15/=17 53.00% 26.5/50
2 Rybka 1.01 Beta 13 32-bit 2900 +15/-18/=17 47.00% 23.5/50
Total: 88 / 150
I will probably test Deteriorating = Much More Pessimistic (rest at default) to
see how that goes. I had tested a mix with Improving = Slightly Optimistic,
which ended up with an inconclusive 2 point edge after 200 games (or 1%). Vasik
said it is interesting because these two parameters have a huge effect on the
search, so to end up so close to the default is intriguing. This may help show
whether one was balancing the other, or whether they simply don't change the
result by much, if at all.
