Of course everybody has his favorite openings. One idea would be to test the compensation in gambit openings and the ability of programs to make use of it. For example, I'm partial to the Smith-Morra Gambit: 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 dxc3. You could start the games from there, or with one or more theoretical positions. A variation first played by Evans against Smith at the tournament in San Antonio (Texas) 1972 (the tournament was sponsored by a fast-food company, so I like to call it the Fried Chicken Variation) is quite testing: 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 dxc3 4.Nxc3 Nc6 5.Nf3 d6 6.Bc4 a6 7.0-0 Nf6 8.Bg5 e6 9.Qe2 h6 I hope you will consider this and/or other gambit openings. And thanks for the rating work you do. Regards, Steve Whiteman Atlanta, GA USA
