Hello Jeroen,
You will probably get several views on this so I may as well give you mine.  I
play a lot of auto232 games and occasionally one program will lose on time even
though the auto232 does not allow wins based on time.  My view is if it loses on
time according to it's own clock then it is a loss and should be scored that
way.  Drawn games may be agreed to by both programs and they will terminate the
game upon agreement.  So, programmers should teach their programs to
offer/accept draws in obvious drawn positions.  If they insist on trying to win
then they should accept the loss on time.
