That was an example of stalemate. Here's an example of a loss: [D]5bnr/pP1R1ppp/2k1p3/8/P7/1P2B3/5PPP/qN4K1 w - - 0 1 Promoting to a Knight on b8 is checkmate; promoting to anything else is a loss. jm
