Terry, >It is a trivial win, the Black King _cannot_ get access to a8, it's too far >away and the White King would never allow it. Take a look at this variation [Event "5 Minutes/Game + 1 Seconds/Move"] [Site "Engine Match"] [Date "2006.02.09"] [Round "1"] [White "Shredder 9 UCI"] [Black "Spike 1.1"] [Result "*"] [SetUp "1"] [FEN "2r5/2pR1pk1/p1P3p1/P2K4/5P1p/5P1P/8/8 w - -"] 1. Rxc7 Rxc7 2. Kd6 Rc8 3. Kd7 Rh8 4. c7 Kf6 5. c8=Q Rxc8 6. Kxc8 Ke6 7. Kb7 Kd7 8. Kxa6 Kc7 * As far as I can see, the white king is trapped between a6 and a8, so it must give up control of the a8 corner, force black's king to capture the 'a' pawn and go on a pawn hunt on the king-side. Am I missing something? Steve
