Yes, true. Except that these recent radio interviews have left me feeling so sick to my stomich, and unsettled, that every time a Fischer hero worshipper comes out, I just can't help it! - I've got to say something. As a matter of fact it was Fischer that got me interested in chess in the first place. Chess has been the great love & the great frustration of my life; Fischer going nuts is definately like a great kick in the guts to me. To think that the person (chess player), who got me interested in this game, would just as soon see me dead, or not even existing in the first place, simply because I'm jewish. Another thing (like John Lennon being shot), that is another horribleness about our contempary reality. Why does our world have to be this way? I definately agree: we should either stop talking about Fischer completely. There are plenty of other top talents for young people to amire - some of them are even Americans! And most of them are not filled with hatred for the people who buy their books and admire them. We are after all, not talking about the war in Kosovo? But if we are going to continue talking about Fischer, it should be no holds barred. If people insist on going on about how great Fischer is (who wouldn't consider selling their soul for the kind of talant for chess that Fischer was/is gifted with. As a matter of fact, maybe that's what Fischer did?), then I feel it is my right to speak out about how horrible this person is. No need to change the name of the group, but yes I don't seperate out the player from the games. I think it is impossible to take that black & white kind of view. I can study (and hope to learn from), Fischer's games (or Alekhine), but my opinion of him other then chess of course you know. Eventually the Fischer threads will settle down, and we'll get back to more on-topic stuff again...
