Hello Howard, yes, you are right under Windows XP the DOS versions won't run, only with a special program called DosBox or something like that people have reported here success in running true Dos programs. I have a Windows 98 computer for the old Rebels, if you can't convert your testsets with the other tools, I'd of course be happy to try it for you. I think a lot of people had their own databases in the old Dos format. The statistics were nice to use on your own games, sorted by openings, opponents etc. But searching for positions in the big gamebase took hours! That wasn't very optimal. I am now trying to convert some of the Rebel stuff to pgn and build a new database for my own use under Scid, at least that works in XP! Together with the TWIC datasets and Rebels historic material on the subscription site, it should be possible to get a very good coverage back to the early days of chess! Regards, Eelco
