Two comments: (1) You can certainly resign if you choose. But your point was a valid one. Steve and the ICD chess folks sponsor this web site. Tim administers it, paid by Steve and ICD. They don't make a cent from any Rybka sales. Therefore there is nothing in it for ICD chess (our sponsors). Some of the Rybka posts are informative, and many are interested in the tournaments. But the discussions about how it is going to be sold, the "subscription idea" and that sort of stuff really does _not_ belong in CCC. Our charter specifically forbids commercial advertising and activities. We let much of this sort of slide by, but the Rybka stuff has really overwhelmed the board. If there is a demand for beta tester discussions, sales strategy discussions, etc, then those need to go somewhere else. Our charter is plain and simple. So I agree with the gist of your comments, that things are out of hand and need to be reigned in or else completely eliminated. (2) Ditto for CCT. However, I don't see how your comments have any impact on that event. You did just fine on the last one, I don't see anything that would suggest that you would be any less effective on this one. If you simply don't want to take the time, that's your choice. But don't make the decision based on what you believe others might think or believe. In closing, I'd like to ask that all the Rybka stuff about beta-testing, marketing, distribution and so forth be taken somewhere else. It doesn't belong here. Yes there is a lot of interest since the program plays very strongly. But there is a big difference between discussing the program, and the program's marketing. And the discussions have gone way over the line now, too many times. I am the author of a freeware program, and I'm in the middle of a major revision with lots of beta-testing going on. You don't notice any discussion here, because I don't believe it is appropriate to do it here. I do it via a private email list. The commercial stuff has been "over the top" quite a few times in recent days... Hopefully it will stop.
