Hi David, I would recommend starting with simpler positions, preferably with pathological positions where you can calculate by hand how big the trees really should be. Begin by disabling repetition draw checking and analyse a position where the number of legal moves is constantly equal to 1, like the following: [D]5b1k/4p1p1/4PpPp/5P1P/p1p5/PpPp4/1P1P4/K1B5 w - - 0 1 Proceed to a position where the number of legal moves for each side is alternatingly 1 or 2: [D]4b2k/3p1p1p/3P1PpP/6P1/1p6/pPp1p3/P1P1P3/K2B4 w - - 0 1 ... and so on. If you have some basic bug in your alpha-beta implementation, such simple positions can help you find it. You may also want to use a material-only evaluation or a zero evaluation until you have found the bug(s). Good luck! Tord
