Because SMK released his last Shredder with an incompatible own format ignoring
X-FEN despite of being pointed to before finishing. Most programmers did follow
him, ignoring now having multiple different representations of identic positions
and moreover being forced to unnecessarily switch engine modes between Chess960
and standard chess. A lot of Chess960 supporting databases and online servers,
already for long supporting X-FEN, have been frustrated by that without any
need.

Find also a German language description of X-FEN at the bottom of:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-FEN

Regards, Reinhard.
