Hi, no need to pay anyone. Just have a look at the right places and the right programs. Some rather simple to understand chess programs which are open source. -TSCP -Minimax -Gerbil -olithink Don't look at fruit or crafty as they are just too complicated for a beginner. The programs I listed here are all written in C and not C++ but if you understand C++ you shouldn't have too much trouble to understand C. Below are some links to webpages to get you started. http://www.brucemo.com/compchess/programming/ Page of Bruce Moreland. Basic stuff and relatively easy to understand. Especially the page about minimax and alphabeta might be an interesting read for you. Once you understand all the stuff on Bruce's site. Ed Shröder has a great site which deals with a bit more advanced topics of chess programming. http://members.home.nl/matador/chess830.htm best regards Roman
