I suggest using Crafty's list server for such specific questions. Tablebase files will help find mates, especially when the board is sparse. I see specific code to search for mate when all the pawns are gone, but I know tablebase lookups find lots of mates too. So maybe the rest are results of accidental tactical snacks leading to the big evening meal. The crafty listserver would be the best place to find out.
