Subject: Collector's Corner..The Most Common ..Rare Computer?

An Oxymoron perhaps ..but with the Advent of Ebay..Computers once thought to be
rare.. appear for sale on a regular basis

Witness if you will the recent rash of Novag Robots..about 6 or so in the past
year
(of course all but one of these were defective..not that this hampered the
bidding any )

or the Legendary Fidelity Eyeball Chesster Phantom
the first ones that appeared sold for upwards of $1500 and then this past year a
truck load of them appeared and sellers couldn't give them away

my vote however would have to go to the Father of all chess computers.
the Fidelity Chess Challenger..
affectionately referred to as the CC1 by the Rank and File collector

so many appeared in the past year that i am starting to think that they are
becoming more common then the CC7

a funny note about the CC1..

some Rank and File actually harbored the theory that only about 250 original
CC1'S were in existence today due to the large number of owners that sent in
their computers for upgrading to the CC3

a theory i never subscribed to and i think the passage of time has proved me
correct on this point

many CC1'S have appeared for sale this past year alone not to mention offers
through private trades

even today one was sold for a paltry $500

of course some computers will always remain rare and i think will never be seen
on Ebay
