All I might add is that it is really a good idea for a previous winner to play
in the next event.  Otherwise there is always the "well, XXX won this year, but
YYY wasn't entered so who knows?"  I've played in multiple events I would rather
have missed, for this very reason.  It is simply preferable to "pass the torch"
rather than to retire undefeated prematurely...

IMHO of course...
