Richard,
Vas is an avant garde type of person. He believes in his product and trusts his
customers. Perhaps this isn't avant garde at all but a return to old-fashioned
honest business principles.
Vas has fulfilled his contract in providing an excellent product at low cost. He
has even allowed some to remain beta testers without fee until he releases his
final product. That is trust.
Enjoy Rybka,
Tim, ICD customer for over 26 years. Rybka customer since 2005.
Mr. Fadden writes:
Yes, your approach makes sense to me, but I purchased Rybka a couple of
weeks ago and here is my experience. I downloaded all versions including the
earler version that did not call itself beta, and then I started playing against
the latest engine "beta 13b" at the time. The engine seemed to work great, so I
started a series of Arena matches, and my Rybka 13b won every match (tournament)
that I set up.
I then went out and purchased two other commercial engines, and then added
those to my own tournaments. For these new engines I paid more for each one
than I paid for Rybka, and as everyone would expect, Rybka still won every
competition.
I then ordered Shredder 9, Hiarcs 10, and Fritz 9, but that is when I found
the ratings lists that indicate my new engines will most likely fall in line
behind Rybka. Of the seven engines that I've purchased recently (I also
purchased Fruit 2.2.1) I am most pleased with the Rybka engine that I
downloaded.
Note that running two weeks on two machines Rybka beta 13b did crash once
during that time, but that didn't bother me - it hasn't happened since. Lately
I have been using the beta 13d version and it seems the same to me...
So I'm just giving my experience. I've been writing that I have already
received my money's worth and then some. It may sound odd but I was actually
happy today to hear that I would receive all of the versions up until May 1.
The current Rybka engine is great! It beats everything in my house, and I think
Vas will give us some additional goodies before May 1, so I'm very happy.
If I had a friend interested in computer chess I would say to him or her:
go ahead and buy this product, I think it's great just the way it is now.
Like I mentioned in another post, I'm not related to these guys... ha!
I appreciate your point of view... and thanks for listening...
