It's very simple. Rybka is sold as an UCI engine. There is no UCI book format. So, when a book is promised, it is clear that it will be in some other format that only works with some interfaces. People complaining that they need to purchase additional software to use the book, should consider this: You already need additional software to use the engine itself in the first place. Complaining about Rybka using a *.ctg book, thus requiring chessbase software, is like complaining about Rybka needing Windows to run. Do you expect Vas to write an independent operating system for your computer too?
