This is not true. Go into the shortcut properties, choose the "Program" tab,
then click the "Advanced..." button. Check off "MS-DOS Mode", and "Specify a
new MS-DOS configuration". Then you will be able to create a Config.sys and
Autoexec.bat which will be used only for that shortcut. The key for running
HIARCS in -x mode is to include the line DOS=NOAUTO in the "Config.sys for
MS-DOS mode" box. This prevents the memory managers from loading.

If you add a DOS mouse driver to the "Autoexec.bat for MS-DOS mode" box, you
will be able to use the mouse. You can probably copy the mouse driver command
directly from c:\windows\dosstart.bat - if your computer was properly set up to
run DOS mode programs.

Unless you add CD-ROM drivers, you will get an error 780 every month as HIARCS
tries to check for the original CD. A workaround is to refresh by running
HIARCS under windows, then go back to using the DOS mode shortcut until the
error 780 appears again. Again, if your computer was set up correctly, the
correct CD-ROM device driver line should be in your Config.sys file, and the MS
CD-Rom extension (MSCDEX) should be in the c:\windows\dosstart.bat file, and
will need to be copied over to the "Autoexec.bat for MS-DOS mode" box.
