Thanks! It will be great fun. I look forward to meeting you, and hope
Glaurung will face Hiarcs somewhere along the way.

Correct. The only 64-bit integers I use are hash keys and node counters.

My opinions about this are probably not very interesting, because I am totally
ignorant about almost everything concerning CPUs and computer hardware, but
since you ask:

My previous computer was an iMac G5 1.8 GHz, my current is an iMac Core Duo
2.0 GHz. The new computer is vastly superior in almost every way, and
especially for running chess programs. Even when running on a single core,
Glaurung is about 50% faster on the Core Duo than on the G5. The G5 never
impressed me much. It seemed to be optimized for floating point operations,
which I never use, neither for computer chess nor for other programs.

There is only one thing I miss on the iMac Core Duo, but this is so painful
that I almost regret my purchase: I can no longer use the excellent OpenMCL
Common Lisp implementation. I thought I could live for a short while
without a Lisp, but it is harder than I thought.
